George Huszar

George Cristian Huszar - Contemporary Artist. This Romanian born & trained artist is one of the very few representatives of the Romanian folk art tradition-- traditions that are endangered as the Romanican cultural identity is overwhelmed by their enthusiasm for the material culture of the West.

George's style brings together the naivete of traditional Romanian icons on glass with the trained eye and hand that comes from a distinguished Romanian art education. His passion for his icons is the conversation that occurs through the work. Through his work, he speaks about the things that matter most-- life, death, joy, grief, hope and faith. And the conversation is not one way, it is two way. His works evolve through the conversation. In his religious and non-religious work, his technique is Reverse painting on glass. He paints with traditional tempera using eggs as an emulsion. The details are done by his hand in 23kt. gold, platinum and palladium leaf Gilding. His work is labor intensive-- to say the least.

George Huszar started making quality Icons around the age of 5. From the age of 11, the young artist's talents were applauded by the Romanian Orthodox Church. Several Bucharest newspaper articles marvel over the child-prodigy. (some such as "România Liberă {Free Roamia} & Evenimentul Zilei {Day News}) By 12, his work was considered a National Cultural Treasure. Critics even categorized his works as Masterpieces. Of course, this aroused suspicions and the young George was summoned before the Romanian Orthodox Council of Religious Art to produce an icon before the members of the council. The child produced a work that so amazed the council members, they presented him with a rare recognition. George Cristian Huszar has been bestowed with the honour of the designation as a Romanian Cultural National Treasure {Living National Treasure). His works are placed in the category reserved only for great artists.

George Huszar is also accomplished in Computer Graphics in 2D & 3D. As a freelancer and design professional, his work for Faryna and Associates, an IT and Design company, can be seen on www.propanesafety.com. He is also known in Bucharest for his animated commercial work for the TV shows “Design” and “Advertising Zone”, broadcast by the Romanian National Television (TVR 1) Romanian Television Company.
